Self-Reference
selected works from the series
The series explores the theme of self-referential connections. These are connections where a process or structure refers to itself. We can think of loops, or in programming, self-reference is described as recursion, where a function calls itself.
When thinking reflects on its own thinking ("Why am I thinking this?"), it represents a form of reflection. This creates awareness of ourselves as individual thinking beings and is fundamental to self-awareness. Without the ability for self-reference, we would not be able to clearly distinguish ourselves from the external world.
